Kamloops Family Resources Society

KFRS is a registered society and charitable organization, based in Kamloops, British Columbia. Our core services include support programs for parents and their children designed to strengthen families and the community in which they live.

Incorporated in 1992, Kamloops Family Resources Society has received funding through a variety of sources.

Our History

Kamloops Family Resources Society, formerly known as Kamloops Pregnancy Counseling Society was formed in 1986 to provide pregnancy counseling services to women facing unexpected pregnancies. The Society expanded to include a residential program — Elda Marshall House — in 1989.  Elda Marshall House operated as a home for at-risk single young mothers and their babies. It was funded through the Ministry for Children & Families.  In 1992 the Society’s name changed to Kamloops Family Resources Society to allow for the expansion of programs and services. Services further developed to include parenting outreach.  Elda Marshall House was transferred to Kamloops Family Resources Society in the late 1990s, however, due to government funding cutbacks, was later closed.  From 1999 to 2006, Kamloops Family Resources Society was accredited by Parents Anonymous Inc.® to operate Parents Anonymous of Kamloops & Region which helped parents to create the safe, healthy and stable family environments they desire for their families.

These Days

In November of 2006, KFRS became the umbrella organization for the Family Tree Family Centre’s Drop-in and Mothers for Recovery Programs. These grass-roots programs, created in 2005 by two downtown moms, provide programming for parents and caregivers of children under 6 years old to expand their social support networks and enhance their current parenting skills. The Family Tree Family Centre Drop-in program encourages and supports healthy early childhood development while connecting  families to their community. The Family Tree Family Centre Mothers for Recovery programs offer women the extra support of a professional counselor in a group support venue.
